Pacquiao Wins Over Margarito by Unanimous Decision
57Manny Pacquiao once again proved his prowess by winning over Antonio Margarito by unanimous decision in the 12 round fight most sportcasters deemed as a "David vs. Goliath" match. All the judges scorecards declared Pacquiao the winner in all the rounds, 120-108, 119-109 and 118-110.
Pacquiao in the earlier rounds was clearly dwarfed by the bigger Margarito, but what he lacks in size, Pacquio compensates skillfully with his speed. Even as Margarito hulks in height and reach and tried to pin Pacquiao to the ropes, but Pacquiao skillfully escapes everytime and comes back with a combination punch more than enough to make Margarito think twice.
Margarito may have hit Pacquiao with strong punches but the Mexican-American fighter's face showing cuts and bruises even half-way through the match, clearly received the brunt of Pacquiao's fist power. Earlier on, Pacquiao landed a strong punch causing a cut under his right eye. As the game progresses, it is obvious that Margarito's right eye was already swelling and started to close. During the 11th round, Pacquiao turned to the referee expecting him to stop the fight, but the latter allowed the match to go on until the end. There is just no way for Margarito to beat Pacquaio's speed and power punch despite his size and reputation to take on punches to the face, but you have to admire him for still holding on like a rock and managing to throw in some punches despite the beatings he took.
Margarito Suffers Injury in Eye Bone
With all the beating he got, Margarito had to proceed to the hospital afterwards. But few people knew that Pacquio went to Margarito's locker room minutes after the fight to check if the Mexican boxer is alright. Later, media reported that Margarito will have to undergo a surgical procedure due to an orbital bone fracture, once the swelling subsides. The orbital bone is the cavity where the eye is located.
Manny Didn't Come Out Unharmed
The day after the fight, the People's Champion is still sore over the shots he got from Margarito the day before. Manny's face shows a lot of bruises and his fist were swollen to twice its size. He took a lot of hard body shots in the kidney area, a possible reason why he had to walk slowly to avert further pain. And yet, he attended some functions during the day such as a Thanksgiving Mass at Gaylord Hotel.
Two days after, on November 15, Manny's team had to cancel all his day's engagement due to medical concerns. He was supposed to appear in a George Lopez Show at TBS that day, together with boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard, to promote his autobiography entitled PACMAN: My Story of Hope, Resilience, and Never-Say-Never Detemination and do book signing afterwards. Pacquiao is scheduled to perform in his concert at Lake Tahoe Tuesday night before flying home to the Philippines.
Pacquiao is guaranteed to bag at least a clean $20 million purse, not including his shares from the HBO Pay-Per-View.
