Dating Filipino Men

Dating a Filipino man can be quiet an experience for a girl from another culture. Filipino men are often stereotyped as romantic and sweet or called 'malambing' in Filipino speak. However, the ways of the Philippine society are changing and many Filipino guys can already be westernized.

Generally Filipino men are 'nice' and easy to please. As long as a woman is presentable and also nice, then you will get along. You will find a lot of single Filipino guys in bars and other hot spots during weekends. Dating one is a 'safe' choice, meaning, a foreign woman don't have to do a lot of effort to understand him because he is generally likeable and sweet.

If one prefers a guy who is very adventurous, then you might be disappointed because there are only a handful of them and you might have to seek out these kinds of Filipino men in specific places or professions.

Types of Filipino Man One Can Date

There are different types of FIlipino guys. The most common is the 'traditional' romantic Filipino guy, or the one who brings you flowers, who still serenades a woman with love songs, more often these types also play the guitar well. However, these types can be moody since they are deemed more in touch with their emotions. Expect him to shower woman with all the attention and affection he can muster. Most of these types would offer to fetch a girlfriend to and from her house or office, accompany her to church, and everywhere she would like to go, acting as driver/bodyguard in the process and can be her version of a knight in shining armor in the 20th century. Nothing wrong with that if that type is your preference, he can be the man you can introduce to your mum and dad.

Then there is 'Mr. Hunk' type, the kind of Filipino guy who believes that he is God's gift to women. He takes good care of his looks and physique, goes to the gym regularly, and makes sure he dons the latest fashion. He also makes it a point to frequent the hippest bar and watering holes mainly to survey the scene. If he comes from a wealthy background, expect him to roll around in a hot ride. Due to his lifestyle, expect him to maintain a string of girlfriends. Women should make a mental note not to take him seriously as this type can be a real player.

You can also find the 'nerdy or geeky' type of Filipino guy. Obviously, he loves learning and expect him to be a scholar and schooled in the country's top universities. Expect him to pursue further education or may have already done so. They are another breed and a woman can still find them as good dates. These are the types who become heads of their fraternities, as editor's in college papers, student body chairman, or even as junior associate in a local law firm. Such types would be harder to impress and may prefer a woman with some sense and more in between her ears. However, a woman with a pleasant persona wouldn't lessen her chances to snag this type as long as you can carry a pretty 'intelligible' conversation.

Beware of the 'bolero' type but they are also common in other races. The bolero type of FIlipino guy will go to great lenghts just to impress her lady love But be aware that he may not be the real person inside, he might only be wearing a facade to impress the ladies. He would often lie about certain aspects of himself and bloat his resume just to appear.......

Then there is also the 'mama's boy' type who may eternally cling on to momma's skirt, everything mama says, he will do,and that includes who to date, when to marry, etc. etc. With these type, not much problem can be encountered when still dating. Marriage is a totally different story. A woman may enter hell territory if she marries the 'mama's boy'. Therefore, a woman must think really hard before tying the knot with this type. An alternative option to make this union work is for the couple to move away as far as possible from the mother's radar.

There is also the fact that Philippine society is known for it's extended families and unlike in the west, Filipino men still get to live with their folks until they are ready to move out. Some can even still live with their parents until well into their bachelor 30's or until they marry. So for a woman from the west, this fact should not come as a surprise, it doesn't mean that the guy that you are dating is still a baby, he is just being the typical Filipino guy. There are of course the exceptions, Filipino men who want their own independent and freedom and might have chosen to live out on their own once they are financially stable.

Dating a Filipino man has its own advantages and disadvantages and it's for a curious woman to find out. Despite a woman's cultural background, dating a Filipino man is not difficult as long as a woman is caring and loving and has a pleasant personality. Finally, although majority of Filipino men still prefer their own for lifetime partners, there exists a minority who are open to the idea of dating women from a different race or culture.
