Antonio Margarito, the Tijuana Tornado

Antonio Margarito is an American-Mexican boxing champion with an impressive 36-8 record with 27 knockouts. Margarito, 32, is also former IBO, WBO, and IBF Champion, stands at 5'11" (180 cm) with a reach of 73" inches (185 cm). He is also known as the 'Tijuana Tornado'. Margarito's monicker did not come as a surprise as this boxing legend is well-known for his ability to throw relentless punches and pound on his opponents inside the ring.

His first attempt for a world title took place in 2001 in the WBO World Welterweight bout against Santos, but the latter retained the belt after the fight was declared 'no contest' due to head butt which sent both fighters to the hospital. Antonio Margarito's first taste of a WBO World Welterweight crown materialized when he defeated Antonio Diaz in 2002. In 2006, Margarito's campaign to defend his WBO Welterweight belt was successful he conquered Joshua Clottey.

Margarito tasted defeat when he lost his WBO belt to Paul Williams but regained his winning streak in 2008 when he won by TKO on the 11th round against the formidable Miguel Cotto. Shane Mosley became his next match in 2009 but Mosley prevailed over him by TKO in the 9th round with the latter losing his WBA title as a consequence. It was also in this fight that Margarito boxing license was suspended for a year after it was discovered that he had a plastic-looking material beneath his wraps. After his suspension, a comeback fight with Roberto Garcia for the WBC International Light Middleweight title earned him the belt in May 2010.

Earlier this year, Margarito has expressed his desire to fight Manny Pacquiao, the pound-for-pound fighter from the Philippines. This time, both fighter will be gunning for the WBC Super Welterweight title, and true enough this much-anticipated face-off will happen next week on November 13 (Nov 14 Philippine time) at the world-class Dallas Cowboy Stadium.
